Akoma and outhouse gallery are pleased to present ‘Lost and Found’-a conceptual and visual representation of Black girls and their intellectual experiences related to identity and storytelling. Lost and Found builds on our dramatherapy development with Sam Adams, exploring storytelling and characterisation of ourselves, by putting Black girls’ composition skills at the centre of their documentation. Similarly, their sustainable practice and engineering coaching from ecological educator Adetola Onamade has activated their need to repurpose and present themselves within the environment, taking up space of their surroundings and becoming part of it. Participants have worked with photographer Adama Jalloh to experiment with lighting, angles and creative movement strategies in small groups. Participants as young as 7 have selected their own models, make-up artists, creative directors and set designers within their own groups. They have taken these photographs as a collaborative team, all by themselves.
Participants aged 13-15 have worked with Rianna Jade Parker to develop a conceptual understanding of photography and considered how they would like to represent their peers in relation to their own identities. Rianna Jade Parker has coached participants on suspension techniques, the consideration of a floor plan, curatorial language and the attachment of work to a gallery space.
