Thomas Burke - The Many Faced Ear

On an exceedingly sleepy Sunday, I make a short pilgrimage across Camberwell’s Church Street — my destination, Thomas Burke’s latest music event, The Many Faced Ear, a curated evening of live music made using field recordings, featuring artists Hestor Dart, Romain Nagata, and Harry of Patchwork HQ.

Notes on Refrain..

There is a strange concurrence to the etymology of the word refrain, it being both  verb and noun of inverse meaning. Its two uses borne from different Latin roots. Its  two contradicting meanings now harmonious in my mind, reflective of each other,  manifestations of the same middle nub of suspension: refrain, a holding back,  refrain, a reoccurring phrase.

Black Carnation: Case Study No. 2 Opening Night

It was an unexceptionally cold, dark and rainy day in South London, formulaic for the city at this time of year. I presumed it to be an unfortunate set of circumstances for an exhibition opening contained within a park, yet despite the unfriendly conditions for a gallery space too small to shelter all its visitors from the elements, the gloomy ambience of the outdoors utterly complimented the melancholic temper of Konstantin Zhukov’s “Black Carnation: Case Study No. 2.”

Everyday Sacredness

“Golden Stars: Everyday Sacredness is an ongoing visual diary about daily life with my daughter. These small, intimate portraits come from our everyday moments — feeding, sleeping, caring, tenderness, and tiredness…Through this process, I speak about the invisible work of motherhood — the repeated gestures of care and love that support life but often stay unnoticed.”  -Anna Samoylova

WET (in)FORM(ation)

WET (in)FORM(ation) has opened up an intimate space for comfortable, queer conversation by sharing artist Marf Summers’s bodily and mental health changes surrounding their gender affirming surgery. The exhibition is on display inside Brunswick Park’s former ladies toilets-turned-Outhouse Gallery through the 12th of October.
